03.01.10 – Laser Scanning for Nuclear Inspection
In the nuclear industry safety is paramount. Installation and facility inspections although essential can be extremely costly requiring shut downs and exposing personnel to radiation. Typical inspections require components and equipment to be inspected and verified to be dimensionally correct. This is a timely and costly exercise. Utilising laser scanning provides substantial benefits to previous methods of inspection.
A laser scanner can be controlled remotely and can capture an exact 3D environment in minutes. This provides a virtual 3D blue print that can be exported into most engineering applications. Engineers can then verify and check all components in a safe virtual environment greatly reducing the amount of time personnel need to enter a nuclear facility.
